About Wildflower City
We support biologically diverse landscapes and specialize in garden designs that are beautiful, sustainable, and wildlife-friendly.
We use plants that are native to New Jersey and curate garden spaces for private homes and open public spaces. Every yard and open space, no matter its size, can be a pollinator haven, full of native plants that are easy to take care of and beneficial to the environment in so many ways.
Our vision
We live in Jersey City, NJ which is the second largest city in the state of New Jersey. The closest nursery that sells native plants is forty-five minutes away by car. We strive to make native plants accessible to people who want them through pop up plant sales and our unique delivery service. We work closely with growers across the state who deal with straight native species and do not use pesticides or harsh chemicals.
What is a native plant?
Native plants are plants that naturally occur in a particular region and have evolved and adapted over time to the local climate, soil, and other environmental conditions. They play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and providing food and habitat for native wildlife.
Because New Jersey’s native plants have adapted to the soil and weather here, they thrive without the use of supplemental watering, and are naturally more resistant to heat, cold, and pests. Native plants tend to have long roots which extend deep into the ground, which helps these plants assist in managing rain water runoff and maintaining healthy soil.
Native plants are beautiful in and of themselves. Whether you have a big yard or just a few containers, there are gorgeous plants and shrubs for every season and every type of growing condition, from full sun to deep shade. But native plants also bring beauty to your yard through the butterflies, bees, and birds they attract. Add native plants to your yard, and you can transform your space into a vibrant habitat that is easy to care for and deeply rewarding.

We curate a list of plants that are unique to each gardener, do the shopping, and arrange delivery!
We provide education on seasonal maintenance and land care management.

Our Team
Kim Correro
Kim Correro is co-founder of Wildflower City, an ecological landscape design business that uses native plants to create beautiful, sustainable, wildlife-friendly gardens across Northern New Jersey. A Rutgers Master Gardener and Environmental Steward, she is currently pursuing certifications in urban ecology and therapeutic horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden. She serves as the Program Director for the Native Plant Society of New Jersey and connects the public with leading voices in native plants, ecology, horticulture, and conservation. She is also co-creator and co-host of The Wildstory: A Podcast of Poetry and Plants, where she continues her mission of making native plant education engaging and accessible.
Lorraine Freeney
Lorraine Freeney is an environmental advocate, birder, native plant enthusiast, and cofounder of Wildflower City. Love of birds led her to begin adding native plants to her own yard, and this sparked a passion that led to cofounding the Hudson chapter of NPSNJ. She co-wrote Jersey City’s native plant ordinance, and is a strong advocate for incorporating native plants and trees into public spaces and preserving wildlife habitat. She is the founder of Jersey City Birds and can often be found birdwatching in Lincoln Park.
Sima Kuntas
Sima Kuntas is an environmental advocate, community leader, and educator. Trained as an architect, she practiced residential architecture in NYC and taught college-level design studios at New York Institute of Technology for more than a decade. Designing her Jersey City townhouse garden sparked a passion for native plants, ecological gardening and urban agriculture.
As co-leader of the New Jersey Native Plant Society’s Hudson County chapter, Sima organizes community events such as winter sowing sessions, Earth Day festivals, empowering neighbors to plant native species and protect wildlife, making environmental stewardship accessible to everyone.
Her ongoing curiosity and interest in a career change has led Sima to take courses through American Horticultural Society, New Directions on American Landscape as well as our own NPSNJ.
